Bosch and BASF to Commercialize Smart Spraying Technology on Fendt Rogator Sprayers

Bosch BASF Smart Farming and AGCO Corporation have announced their partnership to commercialize Smart Spraying technology for precision farming. The innovative Smart Spraying Solution provides optimal herbicide savings without compromising weed control and enables targeted spraying during day and nighttime conditions. The companies started the first trials of this technology in May 2021, and it is now set to be offered in the Americas and Europe starting in 2024.

The Smart Spraying Solution is an advanced technology that utilizes sophisticated sensors, automated sensitivity thresholds, access to Bosch BASF Smart Farming’s weed identification technology, and the Fendt Rogator’s robust application platform to deliver herbicide savings. With the help of this technology, farmers can reduce the usage of herbicides while maintaining high yields and efficiency. Moreover, the system delivers integrated digital tools that turn application data into actionable insights, providing farmers with customized agronomic recommendations and reliable documentation within the same solution.

Supported crops currently include corn, soy, cotton, canola, sunflower, and sugarbeet, with capabilities for more crops being added over time. The unique weed management system offers an end-to-end user experience through AGCO on-board and off-board controls and Bosch BASF Smart Farming’s integrated digital platform from xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions, with full availability and insights into the data gathered during the application.

According to Matt Leininger, Bosch BASF Smart Farming, North America, the system’s unique combination of superior precision, digital tools, and agronomic expertise provides exceptional green-on-green and green-on-brown performance in the market. “This type of precision agronomics offering is a breakthrough to support farmers with less impact and higher yields,” he said.

Seth Crawford, Precision Ag & Digital SVP & GM, AGCO, said that the Smart Spraying Solution is an excellent example of AGCO’s farmer focus. “The progress we have made with Bosch BASF Smart Farming in developing a sustainable solution that maintains productivity while improving profitability, delivering clean fields with maximum savings, is a great achievement,” he added. Crawford also expressed his excitement about further collaboration with Bosch BASF Smart Farming to bring this solution to farmers and custom applicators worldwide.

Precision farming has become an essential part of modern agriculture. The use of advanced technologies like Smart Spraying Solution has revolutionized the way farmers manage their crops. This technology provides farmers with the ability to monitor their crops in real-time, adjust their farming practices, and maximize yields while minimizing input costs. Moreover, precision farming is environmentally friendly and helps farmers reduce their carbon footprint.
