Volvo Introduces SunLike LED Lighting System in New EX90 Model

Volvo has announced the introduction of its latest innovation in the new EX90 model – the SunLike LED lighting system. The Swedish automaker has further redefined the premium car experience by lighting the car’s interior with near-sunlight delivered through a full suite of 72 SunLike LEDs.

The SunLike LEDs, supplied by Seoul Semiconductor, have been designed to enhance the connection with nature, both day and night. The non-flickering lighting addition enables a more natural color expression beyond what’s achievable with LEDs used today in the automotive industry. This provides low light reflection and a high color index that expresses natural colors just as they are seen in nature.

Dan Fidgett, Head of Color & Materials at Volvo, explained that “By utilizing the spectrum of light emitted from the SunLike LEDs, the progressive materials and interior design of the Volvo EX90 stand out more clearly and without color distortion. Complementing our wood deco and other natural materials inside the cabin, the lights are central to our Scandinavian design language.”

The SunLike lights are already used to bring natural light to interior spaces in residential spaces, hospitals, schools, museums, and horticultural applications. However, the Volvo Car Group is the first to introduce the LEDs to production vehicles with the Polestar 3 and the Volvo EX90.

All non-decorative lights in the Volvo EX90 interior, whether placed on the ceiling, floor, door pocket, or trunk, come with SunLike LEDs as standard. The system provides natural comfort to all occupants of the Volvo EX90. The suppression of blue-light in combination with non-flickering light emitting from cabin luminaires can help reduce eyestrain and headaches associated with such exposure.

“The wellbeing of our customers is always a main focus for interior design at Volvo Cars. Bringing in SunLike LEDs to the interior of the Volvo EX90 is another illustration of our ambition to bring in innovative technology to deliver a renewed premium in-car experience for our customers,” said Dan Fidgett.

The SunLike LED lighting system in the new Volvo EX90 model takes the automaker’s commitment to innovation and sustainability to the next level. The system not only provides a unique and immersive in-car experience but also contributes to reducing the negative impact of artificial lighting on the environment.

Volvo has a strong reputation for innovation, sustainability, and safety in the automotive industry. The automaker is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and has set a goal to become a fully electric car company by 2030. In addition, the company has implemented various safety features in its cars, including collision avoidance systems, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

The SunLike LED lighting system in the new Volvo EX90 model is a testament to the automaker’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The system enhances the connection with nature and provides natural comfort to all occupants, making the driving experience more enjoyable and less stressful.
