Siemens wind technology hits the road for Snowtown II wind farm – Jul 22, 2013– Hamburg, Germany  (Techreleased) – Highly advanced and efficient wind technology has arrived in Adelaide, ready for the Snowtown II wind farm to begin construction and helping South Australia become the leading state for renewable energy production. The project begins with the logistical feat of transporting more than 660 pieces of equipment including 210 of the 53 meter long rotor blades and 30 49-meter long blades, from the Port of Adelaide to the Snowtown site. Because of the sheer size of the parts, they have to be moved one piece at a time, each with police escort. If you laid out the rotor blades alone end to end they would form a road train about 13 kilometers long.

The Snowtown II wind farm with its 90 gearless 3-megawatt turbines will be capable of producing 270 megawatts of energy which will power up to 180,000 South Australian homes. It will help South Australia achieve the goal of 33 percent renewable energy by 2020.
