Dell Enhances Data Protection Solutions for Multicloud Environments

Dell Technologies has recently announced software enhancements for its data protection portfolio, including PowerProtect DD Operating System, PowerProtect Data Manager, PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance, and PowerProtect Cyber Recovery solution. The company’s latest product innovations aim to help businesses address challenges related to multicloud data sprawl, operational complexity, and inadequate cyber resiliency.

According to the 2022 Global Data Protection Index snapshot, a staggering 76% of organizations have reported that they lack data protection solutions for newer technologies such as containers and cloud-native applications. Along with this, 65% of organizations are experiencing challenges associated with increased operational management time and complexity. As a result, two-thirds of the same businesses are concerned about coping with malware and ransomware, and they are not very confident that their data in public clouds is protected.

To address these challenges, Dell Technologies has rolled out various software enhancements for its data protection portfolio. The latest release of PowerProtect Data Manager provides enterprise customers with multiple new capabilities, including workload enhancements and enhanced security, plus expanded cloud capabilities.

Data Manager has extended enterprise data protection capabilities for Oracle environments with auto-discovery of Oracle Data Guard Federated. This enhancement provides enhanced and simplified management of Oracle backups and restores in a high-availability Data Guard environment through the Data Manager UI and unified Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) agent workflows. Additionally, Data Manager is now integrated with Oracle Incremental Merge (OIM), which enables users to create synthesized full backups at the cost of an incremental backup, resulting in quicker Oracle backups with better dedupe ratios and faster recoveries.

Moreover, this release of Data Manager extends Cloud Snapshot Manager to include support for Google Cloud Platform. Multitenancy support allows each customer to be provisioned as a separate tenant with their own Cloud Snapshot Manager account. Admins can set roles and role-based access control (RBAC) policies for their users.

To deliver higher levels of security for mission-critical operations, Data Manager now also supports RSA for multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA provides additional layers of access challenge beyond usernames and passwords to guard against the risk of stolen credentials.

The PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance also comes with new security, efficiency, and ease-of-use features. Security is enhanced with multi-factor authentication and Active Directory integration for single-user login management. Troubleshooting and change management efficiency is increased, as users can view and download all audit logs from a single location in the UI.

Data protection efficiency is further improved with faster input/output data rates on the Data Manager Appliance via multiple virtual local area network (VLAN) uplink management.

The PowerProtect DD Operating System (DDOS) has also received updates, including extending Smart Scale for PowerProtect appliances support to on-premises instances of PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition. DDOS updates also introduce new security capabilities. The multi-system management tool, PowerProtect DD Management Center, which manages your PowerProtect appliance environment, now also supports RSA for multi-factor authentication.

PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is another solution that has been enhanced. According to a recent Cybereason ransomware report, 90% of those surveyed reported they were not able to get 100% of the data back after paying the ransom. Paying the ransom does not guarantee that cybercriminals will return access to encrypted files, and even if they do, there is no guarantee that the files will not be corrupted or compromised.

In today’s digital landscape, businesses must take a proactive approach to cybersecurity to ensure that their critical data is protected against cyberattacks. Dell Technologies is one company that recognizes this need and has been working to enhance its data protection portfolio to help organizations prepare for the challenges associated with multicloud data sprawl, operational complexity, and inadequate cyber resiliency.

PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is one of Dell’s solutions designed to help organizations protect their critical data against cyber threats. The solution provides flexible deployment options and streamlined recovery options to improve cyber resilience. The latest release of PowerProtect Cyber Recovery and CyberSense improves the customer experience, lowers the total cost of ownership, and enhances performance to protect critical data against cyberattacks.

The solution is designed to help businesses recover quickly in the event of a cyberattack. PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for AWS allows automated recovery with PowerProtect Data Manager within the AWS vault. Multiple vaults can be configured in the same AWS cloud region, allowing for a more scalable recovery strategy with AWS.

Improvements to CyberSense analytics will help businesses meet their SLAs and lower costs. Multilink connections allow for load balancing to maximize available bandwidth to analyze data for corruption. This will help analyze more data without increasing the number of CyberSense servers. Dynamic licensing will allow businesses to remove stale hosts from CyberSense capacity meters for accurate licensing. To expand support for additional workloads, analytics can run on Hyper-V workloads protected with Avamar and PowerProtect DP appliances.

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery with CyberSense is a solution that businesses can trust to protect their critical workloads from cyberattacks. The solution is designed to be flexible and easy to use, with streamlined recovery options and a user-friendly interface. With Dell’s continuous innovation and commitment to data protection, businesses can feel confident in their ability to protect their data and maintain cyber resilience.

Cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and businesses must take proactive measures to protect their critical data against attacks. Solutions like Dell’s PowerProtect Cyber Recovery with CyberSense provide businesses with the tools they need to protect their data and quickly recover in the event of an attack. By investing in data protection solutions like this, businesses can maintain cyber resilience and protect their critical data against cyber threats.
