Audi Has An Ultra-Limited Motorsport R8 Now – July 12, 2018 – Germany, Europe (Techreleased) – Audi Sport will only build 44 of the Performance Parts R8 Edition, and the United Kingdom’s allocations stands at five units. Each of which will be right-hand drive, in Misano red, priced at £176,560. But how about America? Audi US had this to tell Road & Track:
But what’s a Performance Parts Edition R8 anyway? Well, it’s an R8 with a bunch of Audi Sport performance parts added! Starting with a carbon fiber aero kit consisting of a large fixed wing, side skirts, more aggressive air inlets, a deep splitter, a huge rear diffuser and canards. Those canards could remind you of the first generation Audi R8 GTs from 2010, since Audi sold 90 of those in the U.S.
The results speak for themselves, since this R8 produces 551 lbs. of downforce at 205 mph, which is 220 lbs. more than what a standard R8 V10 Plus could achieve. Perhaps more importantly, you still get 114 lbs. of cornering help at a more modest 93mph. And there’s more good news!
To save 17.6 lbs. in unsprung weight, these 44 super special R8s come with milled 20-inch wheels sprayed black, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. They hide ceramic brake disks with titanium backing plates, while the calipers pack brake pads sourced from the very same motorsport shelf. Needless to say, the three-way adjustable suspension is also lighter than the standard system.
Inside, it’s an Alcantara festival with a touch of perforated Nappa leather. Pretty much every extra is ticked, so you do get the sports exhaust with those bucket seats. Which is something to be expected from an R8 costing the equivalent of $234,000 in the UK. The normal R8 V10 Plus starts at $194,400 in America.
