Nov 20, 2012– Seoul, Korea  (Techreleased) – Alcatel-Lucent has transformed the network of South Korea’s LG Uplus, enabling the service provider to dramatically increase broadband speeds and capacity in response to exploding demand for superfast Internet access, IPTV services, voice-over-IP and other high-bandwidth services in their homes.
Ranked as the world’s most advanced information economy by the ITU[i], South Korea is experiencing rapid growth of broadband services. To meet this demand, LG Uplus has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology in some of the country’s major cities.

By deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s IP service routers, LG Uplus will be able to offer its customers faster, more reliable Internet access, video and voice services while growing revenues with the introduction of new services. This is the first deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s service routers in Korea using its powerful FP3 – the industry’s first 400G processor – and lays the foundation for future speeds of up to 400 gigabit-per-second and even greater capacity.

Rajeev Singh-Molares, President of Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific region, said: “In a market as digitally connected as South Korea, high-quality is key for service providers like LG Uplus to attract and retain customers. This project showcases our ability to deliver a market-leading solution that will help this customer rapidly expand its network according to residential and business users’ changing data demands for years to come, while enabling the operator to lower its operational costs and energy consumption.”
