Weather Apps

No matter what you want to do, there is an app out there to help you do it. Smartphone and tablet applications have had a huge impact. They help us run our lives, keep us entertained, and make us more productive at work. Apps are also useful if you have an interest in the weather, which for adventurers and storm chasers, is paramount.

Weather Apps

Real-time storm tracking is difficult unless you make full use of technology. The beauty of smartphone apps is that they do all the techy stuff for you, so all you have to do is monitor your small screen and make a move if a hurricane or tornado is barreling in your direction. Smartphone apps are the best way to track storms and monitor developing weather systems in real-time, so if the weather matters to you, here are seven apps you need to download for your device.

AccuWeather

The AccuWeather app for iPhones is a great all-round weather app. It gives you detailed weather reports for your location, which is always useful, but if you want to chase tornadoes or hurricanes, it also offers a notification support center where forecasts are updated every hour.

Yahoo! Weather

The Yahoo! Weather app for Android is a great – and very visually appealing – general weather app. You can see images of your current location and enjoy five-day forecasts. You also have the option of checking our satellite imagery and interactive radar and heat maps.

Hurricane

The Hurricane app for iPhone is the “ultimate hurricane app” if you believe the marketing hype. We can’t comment on that, but we can tell you that this app offers detailed reports from a hurricane tracker website. It is also fully integrated with Twitter, so you can stay abreast with what’s happening in real-time.

StormEye

The StormEye app for Android takes detailed weather information, such as the direction a storm is travelling in and the ETA for its arrival, and overlays this on Google Maps. You can watch a storm as it moves towards your location in real-time, which is useful if you want to know how long you have before you need to make tracks out of town.

Storm

The Storm app for iPhone uses HD radar imagery and storm cell tracking combined with severe weather alerts and forecasts to tell you when a serious storm is closing in on your current location. You can check the current weather or keep an eye on forecasts for the next hour or day. There is plenty of detail to keep even the most ardent storm tracker entertained.

Radarscope

Serious storm trackers will love the Radarscope app for iPhone. This uses advanced Level 3 radar images to help you monitor rainfall and wind speed. There is a lot of detail in this app, so it isn’t suitable for everyone. However, if you have a thirst for technology, you will think it’s awesome.

Storm tracking is fun, but not if you get caught up in the path of a tornado, so always stay safe.
