100kW pure hydrogen fuel cell system

Toshiba Wins Order to Supply 100kW Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell System Fueled With Hydrogen Produced By Recycling Plastic – June 05, 2017– Tokyo, Japan (Techreleased) – Toshiba Corporation has won an order to supply a pure hydrogen fuel cell to Showa Denko K.K., a Tokyo-based chemical company. Hydrogen to fuel the system will be extracted from recycled used plastics by Showa Denko, and the fuel cell will help to meet the energy needs of a new Tokyu REI hotel under construction in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture. Hot water cogenerated with the electricity will also be utilized in the hotel, which is scheduled to open in spring 2018.

Commenting on the order, Mr. Hiroyuki Ota, General Manager of Toshiba’s Energy Systems & Solutions Company, noted: “This is the largest of our fuel cells, and it will help Showa Denko to cut CO2 emissions, utilize hydrogen it previously released, and promote more eco-friendly operations. We recognize that pure hydrogen fuel cells have an important role to play in a low carbon future, and we will continue to promote new products and aim to expand sales.”

Pure hydrogen fuel cell systems are a clean energy solution that uses hydrogen as a fuel for CO2-free electricity generation. They are highly responsive, and can boot up and start to generate electricity in just 5 minutes. Toshiba has already delivered the same fuel cell system to the municipal wholesale flower and vegetable market and to a local swimming pool in Yamaguchi prefecture, the westernmost prefecture on Japan’s main island.
