Lexus Unveils More Comfortable And New-look CT 200h – Nov 21, 2013– Melbourne, Australia (Techreleased) – Lexus has unveiled its new-look CT 200h featuring new styling, improved body structure, revised suspension and new specification ahead of its 2014 introduction.
Central to these improvements are additional spot welding and body strengthening measures, revised suspension tune for improved ride comfort and a new styling package.
Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said that the wide ranging improvements to CT 200h add further appeal to the popular hybrid model.
“The changes to CT 200h are more than skin deep; the depth of improvements go right to the heart of the model, improving its overall dynamic capabilities, driveability and visual appeal,” Mr Hanley said.
“The upgraded CT also reinforces Lexus’ commitment to delivering engaging design and enjoyable dynamics across our entire product line-up.”
Final specification and details of the improved CT 200h Line for Australia will be available closer to launch.
Improved driving comfort and refinement
The new CT 200h combines increased body rigidity, suspension revisions and enhanced aerodynamics with comprehensive NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) measures to offer a more refined, comfortable driving experience and an even quieter cabin environment.
Body rigidity has been improved through additional spot welding and the extensive use of structural adhesive technology.
Increased body rigidity has allowed for suspension re-tuning.
Coil spring rates have been optimised, a new shock absorber valve adopted, and the rear stabiliser bar diameter altered to enhance ride comfort with no loss of handling agility.
A traction control off switch has also been added for greater driver control.
Complementing the overall improvements are no less than 94 separate measures adopted to further reduce NVH, while a Lexus hybrid first inlet duct design combines superior quietness with excellent intake efficiency.
New exterior design
The new CT 200h becomes the seventh Lexus vehicle to receive the luxury marque’s spindle grille.
The centre has been pushed forwards to create a bold three-dimensional form. The bottom corners are spaced wider and the spindle ‘pinch point’ has been lowered, reinforcing the CT 200h’s low front profile and wide track.
In profile, the new CT 200h may be identified by a choice of newly developed 10-spoke 16″ and 17″ alloys, and a new shark fin-style roof antenna.
To the rear, a new bumper design features a more horizontal structure. It incorporates distinctive L-shaped reflector housings and a black lower centre section to emphasise the vehicle’s low centre of gravity and broad rear stance.
The new CT 200h is available in a choice of 11 body colours, including new Caliente Red.
Refined interior design and upgraded equipment
The new CT 200h interior has been refined to offer greater comfort, enhanced levels of equipment and improved visual and tactile quality.
The driver now benefits from a new 370mm diameter steering wheel matching that of the IS model range.
The Optitron instrument binnacle is now available with an integral 4.2″ TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen which may be linked to the multimedia system and controlled via steering wheel-mounted switches.
The central TFT multimedia display screen is now of a thinner, fixed design, and the second generation Remote Touch Interface (RTI) features a new, more user-friendly push to enter control switch.
Navigation systems feature added functions, improved operability and enhanced hands-free and voice recognition control.
The sound quality of the Lexus audio system has been enhanced by the adoption of world’s-first bamboo loudspeaker technology. Bamboo fibre, plant opal and charcoal are combined in an injection moulding process to create the industry’s thinnest loudspeaker diaphragm, resulting in noticeably improved sound quality.
Rounding out interior improvements is the adoption of a new door panel insert and upholstery design which incorporates stitching for added visual quality.
Shimamoku – first introduced on the LS Line – has also been adopted for CT and will join an expanded range of interior trim colours, including Topaz Brown (leather accented interiors) and a new Kaleidoscope Red interior fabric trim.
Distinctive F Sport design
The new CT 200h F SPORT has been designed with a more powerful road presence to provide a stronger visual differentiation between it and other versions of the CT 200h.
A new spindle grille design features the same aggressive mesh pattern as that of the new IS F SPORT models.
To the rear, an exclusive roof spoiler incorporates cut-outs to provide additional downforce.
10-spoke 17″ dark finish alloy wheels are also unique to the F SPORT variant.
The F Sport is further differentiated from standard models by the adoption of a new two-tone colour scheme.
The black-roofed F Sport models are available with a choice of eight exterior colours, including the new Caliente Red and F SPORT-exclusive White Nova.
The interior features upgraded F SPORT upholstery, aluminium pedals and scuff plates, perforated leather accented steering wheel and dimpled leather accented shift lever, and F SPORT badging.
F Sport models are also offered in two unique leather accented interior treatments – black and dark rose – featuring double stitching.
The F SPORT features all the driving performance enhancements of the new CT 200h model range. In addition, it benefits from bespoke coil spring settings and optimised front/rear roll rigidity distribution to further enhance its sporting driving dynamics.
