Speaking at today’s launch, Philip Brook, Executive Director of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing, said Holden’s focus to capitalise on the hugely popular LCV and SUV market continued to be a priority.

“We’ve put a lot of time and effort in ensuring we delivered a real contender and serious competitor in the LCV and SUV market,” Mr Brook said.

“The latest Colorado range ensures this tough vehicle continues to stack up against the rest and offers consumers a serious 4WD, with the latest technology, that’s a workhorse, a family vehicle or is just as at home on Australia’s most rugged terrain.”

Powertrain

The 2014 Colorado range boasts a new 2.8 litre Duramax 2 diesel engine offering more power and torque to both the SUV and truck when teamed with the automatic transmission.

The new Duramax 2 diesel engine with automatic transmission generates an impressive 147kW of power and a maximum 500Nm of torque, one of the best in class.

The new engine not only delivers more maximum torque but increases torque across the entire curve.

The enhanced automatic transmission calibration includes shift stabilisation in uphill and downhill modes and grade braking control preventing unnecessary shifting between gears when travelling uphill, and suitable shifting when travelling downhill to minimise braking.

Model Year 2014 Colorado also introduces a new six-speed manual transmission standard across the Colorado truck range.

When teamed with the new six-speed manual transmission, the new Duramax 2 diesel engine produces the same 147kW of power as the automatic transmission and a maximum torque of 440Nm of torque.  Torque is now available all the way from 1600rpm to 2800rpm, ideal for cargo and towing applications.

Power and torque does not come at the expense of fuel efficiency.  Fuel economy remains the same or slightly improved across the range.

Chassis Control Systems

Model Year 2014 Colorado also introduces new chassis control systems to the range such as Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist across the entire Colorado and Colorado 7 range, as well as a Descent Control System on all Colorado 7 and Colorado models except Colorado DX.

Trailer Sway control detects any towing instability, activates the brakes and reduces engine torque, ensuring complete peace of mind when pulling a trailer or caravan.

Hill Start Assist automatically engages when a gradient is detected and acts to hold the Colorado stationary after the brake is released to give the driver time to apply the throttle.

Descent Control System is a variable speed system that allows for a smooth and controlled hill descent in rough terrain by controlling the speed of the vehicle without the need for brake input from the driver.

Safety

The Colorado and Colorado 7 range are equipped with a comprehensive array of safety features and systems and a five star ANCAP safety rating on Colorado 7 and Colorado Crew Cab variants.

Standard features include driver and front passenger airbags and full length curtain airbags, Electronic Stability Control, complemented by ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Hydraulic Brake Assist.

The Model Year 2014 Colorado range now adds to that broad list with front side impact airbags as standard to the Colorado and Colorado 7 range for all LX, LT and LTZ models and Rear Park Assist and a rear camera to all Colorado 7 models and the Colorado LTZ.

These additions firmly cement Colorado’s reputation as one of the safest 4WD vehicles on the market.

Infotainment

An intuitive seven-inch colour touchscreen and class-leading entertainment features are now standard across Colorado LX, LT and LTZ models and Colorado 7 range ensuring owners have the latest technology at their fingertips allowing them to stay connected at every turn.

Holden’s MyLink allows drivers to connect to Bluetooth and access apps keeping them tuned into their favourite music, news, entertainment and navigation.

Bluetooth connectivity means the touchscreen can be used to wirelessly stream audio files for playback from a paired mobile phone or Bluetooth device allowing access to 1000 contacts and missed or recent call history.

Embedded apps include Pandora®, Stitcher® and TuneIn™ allowing owners to create their own personal stations, stream their favourite podcasts, radio shows and news, and listen to the world’s radio from wherever they are.

Now Colorado owners can also access BringGo®, an innovative navigation app that provides access to 3D maps, turn-by-turn directions, and points of interest, emergency contacts and more.  Unlike other phone-based map solutions, BringGo does not require a 3G connection, unless performing a Google™ places search.

And iPhone® users can use Siri Eyes Free Mode via a paired compatible Apple smartphone to ask Siri® to select and play music, hear and compose a text message, read notifications and add reminders.

Colorado still boasts exceptional towing ability with every truck able to pull an unbeaten 3.5 tonne load and every Colorado 7 can tow a 3 tonne load.

Holden has also added to its wide range of genuine accessories for Colorado and Colorado 7 with the addition of an alloy SuperBar, steel bullbar, black nudge and sports bars and a reverse camera as well as updated packs.

The Model Year 2014 Colorado range enhancements have made a tough vehicle even tougher while the new technology ensures it remains ahead of the pack.
