Ericsson To Upgrade Telekom Slovenije’s Network For LTE

Nov 15, 2012– Tokyo, USA  (Techreleased) – In response to Slovenia’s data traffic growth and increasing mobile broadband coverage demand, Telekom Slovenije has selected Ericsson to supply radio access networks for 2G, 3G and 4G and an evolved packet core network for 4G, that will provide support across network technologies. The contract also includes new functionality for their existing Ericsson IMS core network to enable launch of voice over LTE (VoLTE).

The new network will include the Ericsson RBS6000 Family of multi-standard base stations, ensuring lower carbon emissions, less heating and cooling, a smaller footprint, fewer components and fewer site visits.

Telekom Slovenije will be able to offer improved services more cost effectively while their customers will benefit from better data transfer speeds, enabling more advanced multimedia services can reach a greater number of users.

Rudolf Skobe, President of the Management Board, Telekom Slovenije, said: “This is a milestone for us in our journey towards ensuring that our customers will receive cutting edge mobile broadband services. We will provide our customers with higher data speeds and capacity, while at the same time improving our care for the environment. The process of selecting our partner was complex and challenging for all of the candidates involved, as we set very high standards, tested the performance of both devices and the network. We chose Ericsson, who are the most compatible with our vision of network, technology, and service development.”

Anders Runevad, President, Ericsson Western & Central Europe, says: “Ericsson was chosen as a sole supplier to Telekom Slovenije following a very tough and detailed period of trials, technical questions and negotiations. We won this contract by showing that Ericsson’s solutions respond to Telekom Slovenije’s complete requirements and to be the chosen partner is very satisfying. The Ericsson forecast released in June sees the total number of mobile subscriptions globally reaching around 9 billion by 2017 and with this new network Telekom Slovenije recognizes the need to focus on this growth – both now and into the future.”

The roll out will start at the end of November this year. Under the contract as sole supplier for the mobile network, Ericsson will install, deploy and support multi-standard radio base station Ericsson RBS 6000 Family, evolved packet core EPC, Ericsson User Data Consolidation and VoLTE feature. This new investment will provide greater capacity in the network both for the Slovenian population and for M2M development. Ericsson has been the sole supplier of mobile equipment to Telekom Slovenije since 1991.
